Nicole on spring 2011 collections: "Very Lolita-esque!"

Nicole Richie recently chatted to InStyle.com.
The designer talked about her new spring 2011 collections and the plausibility of a childrens line in the near future.

Nicole Richie has her hands full fashion-wise, with two successful collections to her name: Winter Kate, a contemporary ready-to-wear collection, and House of Harlow 1960, a line of costume jewelry and shoes. We sat down with Richie to get the scoop on her new spring collections, her styling tricks and the plausibility of a childrens line in the near future. (Plus, check out our exclusive preview of the Winter Kate lookbook, above!)

InStyle.com: What was your inspiration for the Spring 2011 Winter Kate collection?

Nicole Richie: A lot of the inspiration was drawn from my motherthe way she dressed when I was growing up was very feminine and sexy, but in an innocent, demure way. I also love the way French gypsies mix, wrap and layer their look.

InStyle.com: So how did you translate that aesthetic into your line?

Nicole Richie: Its very Lolita-esque, like jumpsuits, rompers, high-waisted shorts and girlie camisoles. But the Kimono-inspired piece is one of my favoritesit is truly a part of the Winter Kate identity.

InStyle.com: Is there anything youre most proud of from Winter Kate?

Nicole Richie: The camisole dresses! Theyre just easy, sexy and elegant all at the same time.

InStyle.com: Any tips on how to style the collection?

Nicole Richie: You have to dress for yourself! The way I put looks together is different than perhaps my customers would. For me, I would throw on the dress with a pair of House of Harlow 1960 flat riding boots during the day, and then put on a pair of opaque tights with a House of Harlow 1960 bootie at night.

InStyle.com: Now that House of Harlow 1960 has expanded from just costume jewelry to include shoes, have you thought about doing a fine jewelry collection?

Nicole Richie: I would like to do it one day, but I want it to be accessible to the customers whove supported the brand since its inception.

InStyle.com: How about something for the little ones?

Nicole Richie: As for a childrens line, Id say anything is possible!
