The most popular trend in hairstyles right now? Soft curls. The professionals have creating the look down to a science, but you can easily achieve the style at home by using a medium to thick-barrel curling iron. Below, weve broken down the steps into an easy to follow photo tutorialfrom the initial blowout to the finishing touchesto help you score salon-quality curls whenever the occasion arises.

Turn on your curling iron, then follow the steps for a blowout with body. (Managing a curling iron is much easier when hair is smooth.)

Divide dry hair into five sections (again), twisting them into buns and clipping them as you go. Create a top section (hair between the arches of your eyebrows to the back of your crown), two side sections (hair from the arches of your eyebrows out to the backs of your ears) and two back sections (one on either side).

Unclip left side section and pull hair forward, away from your face. With your thumb on the clamp pointing toward your face, open the barrel of the iron and clamp down on the ends. Roll barrel back, away from your face, until you reach the roots, then hold for 10 seconds. Release the clamp and let the curl fall into place. Unclip right side section and repeat. Unclip top section and repeat.

Unclip left back section and tilt your head to the right to help you see the hair in the mirror. Pull hair forward toward your dcolletage. Clamp ends of hair down around the barrel. Roll barrel back, away from your face, until you reach the roots, then hold for 10 seconds. Release the clamp and let the curl fall into place. Unclip right back section, tilt your head to the left and repeat. Coat hair with finishing spray to set curls.
